Greater Manchester Electrochemical Hydrogen Cluster (GMEHC) is a regional industry cluster in the United Kingdom focused on the development and deployment of electrochemical hydrogen technologies. It connects companies, research institutions, and public-sector stakeholders across the Greater Manchester area to advance the hydrogen value chain, from production to end use.
The cluster’s scope spans water electrolysis, fuel cells, hydrogen storage and distribution, and associated materials and components, as well as testing and scale-up. GMEHC supports collaboration, skills development, and investment attraction to accelerate industrial decarbonisation and the adoption of hydrogen in transport, power, and heat. For the chemical sector, the cluster’s activities are relevant to low‑carbon hydrogen production as a feedstock and energy vector, integration with renewable power, and opportunities in manufacturing of catalysts, membranes, and other electrochemical components.
