Capital Region Water

About CRW

Capital Region Water (CRW), formerly known as the Harrisburg Authority, is a municipal authority serving the greater Harrisburg area in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. It provides drinking water, wastewater treatment, and stormwater management services to thousands of residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

CRW operates an Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility (AWTF) on South Cameron Street in Harrisburg—one of the largest and most advanced in the region—with a design capacity of 45 million gallons per day (MGD) average flow and up to 75 MGD peak. The facility employs high-purity oxygen activated sludge processes with biological nutrient removal. The authority maintains over 130 miles of sewer pipes, including combined, sanitary, and stormwater systems, primarily within Harrisburg city limits, while providing conveyance and treatment to suburban wholesale customers such as Steelton Borough and several townships.

Initiatives like the City Beautiful H2O program focus on green infrastructure to reduce combined sewer overflows, restore aging systems, and improve water quality in local waterways, including the Susquehanna River and Paxton Creek. CRW emphasizes sustainable operations, community outreach, and regulatory compliance under NPDES permits.
