About Crown Estate Scotland

Crown Estate Scotland is the public corporation responsible for managing the Scottish Crown Estate, a portfolio of land, coastal, marine, and mineral assets owned by the Crown. Established in 2017 following devolution under the Scotland Act 2016, it operates independently to generate sustainable revenue for Scotland, having produced £270 million from 2017 to 2024.

Key assets include approximately 37,000 hectares of rural land across four estates, nearly half of Scotland's foreshore, virtually all seabed to 12 nautical miles (and renewables rights to 200 nautical miles), and mineral rights. The organization manages leases for aquaculture, salmon fishing, forestry, and commercial properties while supporting community initiatives.

In the energy sector, Crown Estate Scotland plays a pivotal role in offshore renewables, administering leasing rounds such as ScotWind, which has enabled major floating offshore wind projects like Muir Mhòr. It also explores green hydrogen production via offshore wind, contributing to Scotland's net-zero ambitions and economic growth through investments projected to unlock up to £100 billion, primarily in offshore wind.
