The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology is a U.S.-based cooperative research group that designs and conducts clinical trials to improve the treatment and prevention of cancer. Part of the National Cancer Institute’s National Clinical Trials Network and Community Oncology Research Program, it was formed in 2011 through the merger of three legacy groups (ACOSOG, CALGB, and NCCTG).
The Alliance unites academic centers, community practices, and international collaborators to evaluate new therapies, optimize standards of care, and advance biomarker-driven and precision oncology across solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Its work spans trial design and execution, biostatistics and data management, translational science, and biospecimen banking. Activities are supported by federal funding and philanthropic resources through the Alliance Foundation, with Alliance Foundation Trials, LLC facilitating industry-sponsored studies. The organization’s results inform clinical guidelines and regulatory decisions, helping translate scientific discoveries into evidence-based cancer care.
