The African Development Bank Group (AfDB), also known in French as Banque Africaine de Développement, is a multilateral development finance institution established in 1964 and headquartered in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The Group comprises the African Development Bank, the African Development Fund, and the Nigeria Trust Fund. With a membership of regional and non-regional countries, its mandate is to promote sustainable economic development and social progress across Africa through sovereign and non-sovereign lending, grants, equity investments, guarantees, technical assistance, and policy dialogue, while mobilizing co-financing and private capital.

AfDB’s operations span infrastructure, energy, water and sanitation, agriculture, industrialization, trade facilitation, and climate resilience—areas that intersect with the chemical and materials value chain. Its financing and advisory work support enabling infrastructure, industrial parks, and private-sector development, as well as environmental and social safeguards and capacity building. The Bank’s programs often target improvements in manufacturing competitiveness, supply chains, and resource efficiency, which can influence downstream sectors such as industrial processing and agricultural inputs.

Also known as Banque Africaine de Développement.
