Abnormal seismic activity in March caused major damage at the Garpenberg mine, with the upper parts of the dominant Lappberget ore body particularly affected; the mine comprises three separate ore bodies.
Operational damage
Significant damage was reported to ventilation and compressed-air systems, water management, electrical infrastructure, backfill paste systems and some mobile equipment, requiring stoppage of affected production areas.
Financial impact
Boliden will write down the book value of impacted underground developments, mining assets in upper Lappberget and mobile equipment by SEK 700m, which will negatively affect operating profit in Q1 2026.
EBITDA effect
