WACKER opens Karlovy Vary specialty silicones site
- WACKER commissioned a new silicone production site in Karlovy Vary, with the first production line starting after two years of construction.
- Karlovy Vary will produce room-temperature-curing silicones and solid silicone rubber, while Burghausen will focus on liquid silicone rubber and Plzeň on thermally conductive silicones, potting compounds and silicone gels.
- The site is part of a reorganisation of WACKER’s European silicone network that includes Plzeň, Nünchritz and Burghausen to supply customers of silicone specialties.
- The plant is located in a 25,000 m² Business Park; WACKER has leased the land and building from Accolade, Panattoni built the shell, and WACKER designed the production facilities and laboratories.
Opening
WACKER officially opened a new silicone production site in Karlovy Vary; after two years of construction the first production line went on stream. Around 100 guests from politics, business and industry attended the commissioning ceremony.
Role in European network
With the new site WACKER is reorganizing its silicone activities in Europe. Karlovy Vary will join Plzeň, Nünchritz and Burghausen in supplying customers of silicone specialties going forward.
Product focus and markets
Karlovy Vary will manufacture room-temperature-curing silicones and solid silicone rubber. Burghausen will produce liquid silicone rubber, and Plzeň will handle thermally conductive silicones, potting compounds for the automotive industry and silicone gels for wound care. Target markets include electromobility, medical technology, renewable energy, grid expansion and digitalization.
Site and construction
The plant sits in Business Park Karlovy Vary (25,000 m²). WACKER has leased the land and building from the investment group Accolade; Panattoni constructed the building shell, and WACKER designed the production facilities and laboratory equipment.
