- Expansion of chlorine and VCM capacity at Gendorf site using ThyssenKrupp Uhde technology
- VCM capacity to be expanded in two steps through 2021
- Investment includes site infrastructure modernization with InfraServ Gendorf
- Aims to balance regional capacities and reduce VCM transports
Expansion Plans
Vinnolit, a Westlake company, is set to expand the chlorine and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) capacity at its Gendorf site. The expansion will utilize the latest energy-efficient ThyssenKrupp Uhde single-element chlorine membrane technology. The VCM capacity will be increased in two phases, scheduled for completion by 2021.
Investment and Modernization
In collaboration with site partner InfraServ Gendorf, Vinnolit is investing in the expansion and necessary site infrastructure to modernize the Gendorf site. This initiative aims to strengthen the value chain within the Bavarian Chemical Triangle and enhance the site's overall competitiveness.
Production and Supply Chain
Vinnolit produces PVC intermediates, including chlorine and VCM, at its Gendorf and Knapsack sites. These intermediates are also supplied to neighboring production facilities in Burghausen and Cologne. The expansion at Gendorf is designed to better balance regional capacities and reduce the need for VCM transport.
Customer Benefits
The increased capacity will also result in a higher output of caustic soda, a co-product, directly benefiting Vinnolit's customers. This strategic move is expected to enhance operational efficiency and support future growth in the European market.
