- Water-based functional styrene-butadiene (SBR) binder formulated for graphite- and silicon-based anodes.
- Validated performance: about 5% lower electrode surface resistivity and up to 18% reduced whole-cell DCIR in 4 Ah pouch cells.
- Engineered to minimize binder migration during electrode drying, improving coating homogeneity and adhesion to the current collector.
- Commercially available across Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America and scheduled to be presented at Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart, June 9-11, 2026.
Product
VOLTABOND™ 211 is a water-based functional styrene-butadiene (SBR) binder, the second product in Trinseo's fourth-generation SBR platform, formulated for graphite- and silicon-based lithium-ion anodes.
Technical benefits
It minimizes binder migration during electrode drying to produce a more homogeneous coating that improves adhesion to the current collector, provides mechanical cohesion through mid and top layers, and reduces binder accumulation at the electrode surface, preserving lithium transport pathways for improved cell kinetics and fast-charging capability.
Performance
Compared with Trinseo's Generation-2 VOLTABOND 029, VOLTABOND 211 reduces electrode surface resistivity by about 5% and lowers whole-cell DCIR by up to 18% (validated in 4 Ah pouch cells) while retaining peel adhesion and high-temperature performance; supporting data available on request.
Availability and validation
VOLTABOND 211 is available commercially across Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America, is being qualified with battery manufacturers, and will be presented at Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart, June 9–11, 2026.
