Toray Unveils Antistatic ABS Resin for Electronics

Key highlights
  • Toray developed a highly antistatic ABS resin with surface resistivity of 10^9Ω/sq.
  • Samples will be available to customers from the next fiscal year.
  • The new resin will be showcased at SEMICON Japan 2025 from December 17 to 19.

Introduction

Toray Industries has developed a new highly antistatic version of its TOYOLACPAREL ABS resin, featuring a surface resistivity of 109Ω/sq, which is one-fifth of its previous version. This innovation is aimed at enhancing the handling equipment used in semiconductor and electronic device manufacturing.

Market Demand

The semiconductor market's rapid growth and the trend towards smaller, more integrated devices have increased the need for materials with superior antistatic properties. The new ABS resin addresses these demands by reducing static electricity, which can cause product damage and lower yields.

Material Advantages

Traditional antistatic ABS resins with conductive fillers have limitations in durability, appearance, and color flexibility. The new TOYOLACPAREL resin overcomes these issues by forming a continuous-layer network of antistatic polymer within the ABS resin, offering improved performance and design options.

Technological Innovation

The enhanced surface resistivity of the new resin is achieved through an improved molecular design and micro-scale control of the continuous-layer structure, utilizing proprietary polymer alloy technology. This advancement supports a broader range of applications and meets stricter antistatic requirements.

Future Plans

Toray plans to provide samples of the new resin to customers starting next fiscal year. The company will also exhibit this innovation at SEMICON Japan 2025, scheduled from December 17 to 19, showcasing its commitment to advancing semiconductor manufacturing materials.
