Worley Supports bp's Archaea Energy in RNG Expansion

Key highlights
  • Worley has been delivering engineering scopes for Archaea RNG sites since early 2024.
  • Projects are underway in North Carolina, Colorado, and Montana.
  • Facilities convert landfill biogas into pipeline-quality RNG using Archaea's Modular Design.
  • Worley's role expanded to include FEED, detailed design, and procurement support.

Project Overview

Worley is collaborating with bp's Archaea Energy to transform landfill gas into renewable natural gas (RNG), a lower-carbon fuel that aids in reducing emissions and advancing the energy transition.

Engineering and Design

Since early 2024, Worley has been delivering engineering scopes across multiple Archaea RNG sites in the United States, including North Carolina, Colorado, and Montana. These projects involve modular facilities designed for varying flow rates.

Technology and Process

The facilities upgrade landfill biogas, which was previously flared, into pipeline-quality RNG, also known as biomethane. This is achieved using Archaea’s Modular Design (AMD) framework, which supports a 'design one, build many' approach across their project portfolio.

Expanded Role

Worley’s involvement began with engineering support and has expanded to include front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed design, balance of plant design, procurement support, and inventory management. This expansion reflects the successful collaboration and trust built between the companies.
