Project Overview
SUEZ, Loop Industries, and SK Geo Centric have chosen Saint-Avold, France, as the site for a new manufacturing facility. This plant will produce 100% recycled and infinitely recyclable virgin-quality PET resin, with a planned capacity of 70,000 metric tons per year.
Investment and Support
The project represents a €450 million investment and is supported by the French Ministries of Industry and Ecology, the Grand Est region, and the Saint-Avold Synergy region community. The facility aims to address the growing demand for recycled PET driven by European regulations.
Strategic Location
Saint-Avold's Chemesis industrial platform was selected for its strategic location in Europe, offering access to energy, logistics, and suppliers. This environment is optimal for the new facility, which will contribute to the sustainable revitalization of the local industrial base and create 200 new jobs.
Environmental Impact
Loop’s depolymerization technology will upcycle low-value feedstocks into high-purity PET plastic, potentially saving over 255,000 tonnes of CO2 annually compared to virgin PET resin made from fossil fuels. SUEZ will manage the collection, sorting, and preparation of feedstock.
Timeline
A local consultation process will begin soon, with construction starting in early 2025 and plant commissioning slated for 2027. This facility is part of Loop’s global commercialization strategy, with another project planned in Ulsan, South Korea.
