SONATRACH and SINOPEC Guangzhou sign EPCC for Arzew hydrotreating/reforming unit

SONATRACH and SINOPEC Guangzhou Engineering Co., Ltd signed an EPCC contract for the construction of a CCR hydrotreating and reforming unit at the Arzew refinery. The signing took place at SONATRACH’s headquarters in the presence of the State Minister, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, the SONATRACH CEO, and senior executives from both companies.
Unit scope and capacity
The new unit is designed to treat heavy naphtha with a processing capacity of 738,000 tonnes per year. It combines hydrotreating and catalytic reforming (CCR) functions to upgrade heavy naphtha into gasoline-range products.
Site and schedule
The facility will be built by SINOPEC Guangzhou on a 5-hectare site within the Arzew refinery under an EPCC arrangement. The project timeline is 30 months to completion.
Strategic impact
The unit will raise the refinery’s gasoline output from 550,000 to 1.2 million tonnes per year and is part of SONATRACH’s refining expansion plan to meet gasoline demand in the western and south-western provinces.
