Perimeter Solutions: SOLBERG EVOLUTION 3% SFFF — first Newtonian fluorine‑free foam with FM approval

Key highlights
  • FM 5130 approval obtained for a Newtonian 3% synthetic fluorine‑free foam for fixed sprinkler systems.
  • MIL‑SPEC approval, ICAO Level B certification and UL‑162 approval validate ARFF and aviation fire protection uses and the product is listed on the US DoD Qualified Products List.
  • Formulation contains no intentionally added PFAS, silicone/siloxane, biopolymers, or thickeners, is designed to be biodegradable, and is compatible with standard sprinkler hardware and aircraft surfaces.

Approvals and certifications

SOLBERG EVOLUTION 3% Synthetic Fluorine‑Free Foam (SFFF) has earned FM 5130 approval for use in fixed sprinkler systems and UL‑162 approval, and is the first fluorine‑free foam on the U.S. Department of Defense Qualified Products List to also hold FM approval for fixed sprinklers; it also holds MIL‑SPEC approval and ICAO Level B certification for aviation firefighting.

Performance and intended uses

The Newtonian 3% SFFF is formulated for rapid knockdown and extinguishment of Class B hydrocarbon fires (including gasoline and Jet A/Jet A‑1) and has demonstrated effective performance through both aspirated and non‑aspirated standard sprinkler heads for aircraft hangars, fuel storage and related fixed fire protection systems.

Technical and environmental profile

The concentrate contains no intentionally added PFAS, no silicone/siloxane chemistries, biopolymers, or thickening agents, and is designed to be biodegradable without a persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) profile.

Compatibility and system engineering

Its Newtonian (water‑like) viscosity simplifies hydraulic calculations, proportioning accuracy and system design for retrofits or conversions, and it has been tested for material compatibility with aircraft surfaces per Boeing BSS 7432; it is approved for use with SOLBERG bladder tanks, foam chambers and non‑aspirated sprinkler hardware.
