SCG Chemicals, Toyota and Bangchak expand Toyota Mobility Upcycling Year 2 to scale recycling and SAF feedstock collection

Key highlights
  • This year the initiative targets expansion to 15 provinces and collection of a combined 15 tons of recyclable waste and used cooking oil.
  • In its first year the programme collected 11,152 kilograms of sorted waste.
  • SCGC will process used plastics into High Quality Post-Consumer Recycle Resin under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand.
  • Bangchak will collect used cooking oil from households and restaurants to support its conversion into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Partnership scope

SCG Chemicals (SCGC), Toyota Motor Thailand and Bangchak signed an MOU to advance Toyota Mobility Upcycling Year 2, aiming to improve end-to-end collection and management of recyclable waste and used cooking oil, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to carbon neutrality.

Operational roles

SCGC contributes expertise, technology and waste-sorting standards and integrates its Wake Up Waste solution for recyclable collection and compactor truck services covering plastics, paper, glass, aluminium and metals. Used plastics are processed through internationally standardized recycling facilities and converted into High Quality Post-Consumer Recycle Resin under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand for manufacture of value-added products.

Community model and targets

This year the initiative aims to establish the Toyota Greentown Ayutthaya Learning Center as a model community-level Recycling Hub and to expand the collaborative network to local communities across Thailand, targeting 15 provinces and a combined collection target of 15 tons of recyclables and used cooking oil.

Results and strategic alignment

Bangchak will manage collection and storage of used cooking oil from households to restaurants to support conversion into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). In the first year the initiative collected 11,152 kg of sorted waste, reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 16.9 tCO₂e and engaged more than 3,000 households; the collaboration supports SCGC’s goal to collect 500,000 metric tons of used plastics per year by 2030 and Thailand’s aim for Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
