Introduction
Sasol International Chemicals has launched LIVINEX IO 7, a bio-circular, palm and deforestation-free surfactant derived from insect oils. This product is designed for the fabric, home care, industrial, and institutional cleaning markets.
Product Features
LIVINEX IO 7 is the first nonionic surfactant of its kind, offering a drop-in replacement for traditional C1214-based chemistry. It can be seamlessly integrated into existing product formulations, eliminating the need for full reformulation.
Production Process
The surfactant is made from oil obtained from black soldier fly larvae, rich in fatty acids used to produce detergent-grade alcohols. This process avoids land use changes and competition with food crops, as insect oil chemistry is identical to vegetable oil.
Market Launch
Sasol will debut LIVINEX IO 7 at the SEPAWA® CONGRESS 2025 in Berlin. Initially available in European markets, the product targets the home care, fabric, industrial, and institutional cleaning sectors. Expansion into the personal care sector is planned within 12 months.
