Project and scope
thyssenkrupp Polysius was commissioned by SMA Mineral to perform pre-engineering for a flash calcination pilot using SaltX Technology’s Electric Arc Calciner (EAC) at Mo i Rana, Norway; the FEED-level work focuses on conceptual design and preliminary layout of preheating and cooling systems for a planned 120 t/d pilot.
Technical solution
Engineering targets a multi-stage cyclone preheater with cyclone-flash cooling adapted to site structural conditions and integrates the EAC process; the pre-engineering provides the technical basis for the pilot and potential future full-scale facility.
Material tests and next steps
SMA Mineral financed material tests, supported by SaltX, to assess thermal behavior inside the cyclone preheater under electric process conditions; test data will validate and refine key process parameters and feed into the FEED, supporting the ZEQL project goal of moving quicklime production toward fully electric, low-emission operation.
