ORLEN Group to Build Oil Pressing Plant in Poland

Project Overview

ORLEN Południe is set to build a state-of-the-art oilseed processing plant in Kętrzyn, Poland. The facility will process 500,000 tonnes of rapeseed annually, producing 200,000 tonnes of oil for low-carbon biofuels. This investment will create jobs and provide a stable demand for Polish farmers.

Investment and Timeline

The project will cost approximately PLN 850 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2024, with completion expected by mid-2026. The plant will include various processing nodes such as raw material reception, product dispatch, storage, pressing, extraction, steam production, and wastewater treatment.

Contractors and Capacity

The construction will be handled by a consortium of Polimex Mostostal S.A. and AB Industry S.A. The plant will utilize about one-seventh of Poland's total rapeseed output, which was 3.6 million tonnes in 2022. ORLEN Południe will have full control over the quality of the oil produced.

Local Impact

The new facility will generate over 100 jobs and stimulate demand for supplementary services from local businesses. The oil produced will meet specifications for use in ORLEN Group’s production facilities, primarily serving the biodiesel plant in Trzebinia.

Additional Developments

ORLEN Południe is also constructing a second-generation bioethanol plant in Jedlicze, which will produce 25,000 tonnes of bioethanol annually from 150,000 tonnes of locally sourced straw. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on petroleum and enhance energy independence.
