ORLEN advances Baltic Eagle Gas Hub with FSRU 2 capacity reservation

Key highlights
  • Reserved 12 LNG cargo slots per year at FSRU 2 for 2030–2039, equal to ~1.25 bcm of regasified gas annually.
  • Combined with Świnoujście, FSRU 1 and Klaipėda, ORLEN’s LNG import capability will exceed 16 bcm per year.
  • Świnoujście terminal regasification capacity stands at 8.3 bcm after expansion; FSRU 1 reserved capacity is 6.1 bcm.
  • LNG deliveries to date enabled import of over 46 bcm to Poland (≈527.7 TWh), equivalent to the annual needs of ~26 million households at 20 MWh each).

FSRU 2 reservation

ORLEN reserved regasification capacity at the FSRU 2 terminal in the Gulf of Gdańsk via an Open Season procedure. The reservation covers 12 LNG cargo slots per year between 2030 and 2039, corresponding to the ability to receive approximately 1.25 bcm of natural gas annually.

Portfolio and logistics

When combined with the Świnoujście terminal, the planned FSRU 1 in Gdańsk and capacity at Klaipėda (accessed via the Santaka interconnector), the Group’s LNG import capabilities will exceed 16 bcm per year after regasification. The Group currently utilises Świnoujście, whose regasification capacity has been increased to 8.3 bcm, and has reserved the full 6.1 bcm capacity of the planned FSRU 1. It also has access to Klaipėda and, through a subsidiary, the Montoir terminal in France, complemented by its own LNG carrier fleet.

Scale and regional impact

ORLEN’s LNG activity has delivered more than 46 bcm of gas to Poland to date (about 527.7 TWh), a volume the article equates to meeting the annual energy needs of some 26 million households at 20 MWh per year. The reserved FSRU 2 capacity is presented as strengthening supply security and flexibility for Poland and neighbouring CEE markets, with imported gas also able to support countries including Ukraine and Slovakia through cross-border interconnections and trading activity.
