OMV Petrom has completed a 45 million euro investment in a new sulphur recovery unit at the Petrobrazi refinery. This unit is designed to enhance the refinery's environmental performance by reducing emissions and improving operational adaptability.

Project Details

The project involved over 350,000 hours of work, including the installation of a new Claus unit, gas treatment towers, pumping systems, pipelines, electrical installations, and automation systems. Construction began at the end of 2023 and was completed in under two years.

Operational Benefits

The new unit allows Petrobrazi to process a wider range of crude oils and supports operational continuity by providing additional capacity for gas treatment. The sulphur recovered can be used in various industries, including fertilizer, pharmaceutical, and detergent production.

Ongoing Investments

OMV Petrom has invested over 2 billion euro in the modernization of the Petrobrazi refinery since privatization. The company is also developing a 750 million euro project for a sustainable fuels production unit, expected to be operational by 2028, which will include a green hydrogen component.
