Regulatory clearance
China’s National Medical Products Administration has approved Nouryon’s Cekol® CMC‑Na for use in pharmaceutical manufacturing, allowing the company to supply the excipient into China’s drug production market.
Product and manufacturing
Cekol® CMC‑Na is a plant‑based carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and a water‑soluble polymer produced at Nouryon’s GMP‑certified facility in Finland. The material offers a plant‑based alternative to synthetic excipients and dissolves readily in formulations where less‑soluble alternatives can be harder to process.
Formulation roles
The excipient is used to bind tablet ingredients, thicken syrups and keep active ingredients evenly suspended for consistent dosing. It is also applied in tablet coatings, eye drops and gels to help control release kinetics of active ingredients.
Portfolio context
The approval complements Nouryon’s wider pharmaceutical specialty chemicals portfolio, which spans chromatography purification resins, excipients and oral and wound care ingredients that support manufacture and delivery across the drug lifecycle. These pharmaceutical offerings sit within the company’s Life Sciences business unit.
