Nextchem (MAIRE) licenses NX Circular for Canadian biomass-to-syngas SAF project

The deal
Nextchem, through its subsidiary MyRechemical, has signed a licensing agreement with SUSTAERO GP for the biomass-to-syngas section of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant in Canada using Nextchem’s NX Circular™ technology.
Technology and feedstock
The NX Circular process covers high‑temperature gasification and melting of wastes and biomass residues and the subsequent purification to produce chemical‑grade syngas. The project targets forest residues and wood waste as feedstock and integrates SUSTAERO’s SOAR™ process for downstream SAF conversion.
Capacity and timeline
The plant is planned to be operational in 2030 with an initial SAF output of up to 144,000 tonnes per year and expansion potential up to four times that capacity.
Scope expansion and comments
The licence includes the biomass‑to‑syngas scope today and foresees potential extension after Final Investment Decision to supply the Process Design Package, proprietary equipment, technical services and catalyst. Nextchem and SUSTAERO highlighted the technology fit for converting abundant wood waste into low‑carbon aviation fuel while reducing unmanaged forest residues.
