In February 2026, Munich Airport and RWE signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a duration of ten years. This agreement ensures the airport receives 40 gigawatt hours of electricity annually from RWE's new wind farm in the North Sea.
Wind Farm Details
The electricity will be sourced from RWE's Nordseecluster A offshore wind farm, located approximately 50 kilometers north of the island of Juist. The wind farm, currently under construction, has a total capacity of 660 megawatts and is expected to begin operations in early 2027.
Sustainability Goals
This agreement is a key component of Munich Airport's strategy to achieve its NetZero 2035 sustainability target. The green electricity supplied will power the airport's infrastructure, including buildings and aprons, contributing to a reduction of approximately 13,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
