Metso selected as process technology partner for New Simberi expansion

Key highlights
  • Order value approximately EUR 10 million booked in the Minerals segment’s 2026 third-quarter orders received.
  • Project owner: Simberi Gold Company Limited (50:50 Lingbao Gold Group and St Barbara Limited); engineering delivery by Pitch Black Group.
  • Expansion converts the plant from oxide to fresh sulphide ore processing, with feasibility outlining a pathway to ~200,000 ounces of annual gold production.
  • Metso supply includes Vertimill regrind milling, Metso TankCell flotation, Metso VPA pressure filtration and a Metso High Rate Thickener with Reactorwell; earlier H1 2026 equipment included an HP200e cone crusher and two apron feeders.

Contract and booking

Metso has been awarded major process technology packages for the New Simberi Gold Project Expansion and has booked an order of approximately EUR 10 million in the Minerals segment’s 2026 third-quarter orders received.

Project scope and objectives

The expansion will convert the existing Simberi operation from processing oxide ore to treating fresh sulphide ore, enabling higher mining rates and long-term growth in gold production. Feasibility work outlines a pathway to approximately 200,000 ounces of annual gold production and a substantial expansion of material movement versus current levels.

Metso scope and technologies

Metso will supply a comprehensive package covering regrind milling, flotation, thickening and filtration: Vertimill® regrind milling, Metso TankCell® flotation circuit, Metso VPA Pressure filtration for concentrate dewatering, and a Metso High Rate Thickener (HRT) with ReactorwellTM for optimised flocculation and mixing. The technologies are intended to improve throughput, recovery, water efficiency and robustness in a remote operating environment. These deliveries follow earlier H1 2026 contracts for a Nordberg® HP200e™ cone crusher and two apron feeders.

Client and partner comments

Metso highlighted the integrated flowsheet approach across comminution, flotation and dewatering and its ability to support energy-efficient, high-performance processing solutions. The project director stated Metso’s process technology offering and delivery experience were key considerations in selecting them as a major equipment supplier as the project moves toward execution.
