Simberi Gold Company Limited

About SGCL

Simberi Gold Company Limited (SGCL) is the operating entity responsible for the Simberi gold mine and the development of the New Simberi Gold Project expansion on Simberi Island in New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea.

The company conducts open-pit mining and processing of gold ore, currently focused on oxide material while advancing plans to transition to sulphide ore processing. This expansion will significantly increase throughput and recovery rates.

Following completion of a strategic transaction in April 2026, SGCL operates under a 50:50 ownership structure between Lingbao Gold Group (China) and St Barbara Limited (Australia), with St Barbara Mining Limited (SBML) as the key holding entity. A 20% project interest is also held by Papua New Guinea state-owned Kumul Minerals.

The New Simberi project targets annual gold production exceeding 200,000 ounces over a 13-14 year mine life at all-in sustaining costs of approximately US$1,100–1,400 per ounce, based on ore reserves of around 2.5 million ounces. Operations support local employment, community programs such as cocoa farming partnerships, and contribute to PNG's gold mining sector as a long-life, low-cost asset.
