On 8 July 2025 the Belfort Commercial Court accepted John Cockerill Hydrogen’s bid to acquire McPhy’s key assets, including the Belfort plant, innovative technologies, intellectual property and approximately 80 employees. Since the acquisition the company has continued to invest in expertise, industrial tools and the development of new generations of electrolyzers.

Teams from Belfort, Wildau and Seraing completed the first 5 MW electrolyzer stack manufactured and assembled in France using an innovative production line, demonstrating preserved industrial and technological expertise and the ability to continue development of this technology for Europe’s energy transition.

Aspach and Seraing sustain industrial operations: after producing the cells for a 25 MW plant in Belgium, Aspach will launch production this summer of eight new electrolyzers totaling 40 MW for a project in the Netherlands, supporting current European deployments.
