Project Overview
RheinEnergie AG and Deutsche Infineum GmbH & Co. KG have partnered to construct an 18-megawatt ground-mounted photovoltaic system on Infineum's industrial site in Cologne. This project is set to become one of the largest urban industrial PV systems in Germany, with commissioning planned for 2027.
System Specifications
The photovoltaic system will cover an area of approximately 12 hectares and will include around 25,300 solar modules, each with an output of 710 watts. The system is expected to generate about 18 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, sufficient to power several thousand households.
Environmental Impact
This initiative aims to significantly reduce CO2 emissions at the Cologne-Niehl production site, contributing to local climate protection goals. The project aligns with Infineum's sustainability objectives for 2030, focusing on reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
