Project Overview

INEOS has awarded Técnicas Reunidas a contract for project management, engineering, procurement, and construction management for a large-scale ethylene plant in Antwerp, Belgium. The facility will have a production capacity of 1.5 million tons per year and is expected to start operations in 2026.

Investment and Technology

INEOS will invest between €3,000 and €4,000 million in this project, marking the largest capital investment in the European chemical sector in the last 20 years. The plant will utilize advanced technology to become the most energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable facility of its kind in Europe.

Workforce and Expertise

The project will mobilize a highly qualified team, peaking at 450 professionals in Madrid, including process and chemical engineers. Additionally, 225 professionals will be mobilized for construction supervision in Antwerp and at the center where large-scale modules will be constructed.

Applications of Ethylene

Ethylene produced at the plant will be used in various applications, including wind power plants, solar panels, medical equipment (such as blood bags and MRI scanners), long-life construction materials, textile products, and lightweight vehicle components.
