Grace and Molecule.one entered a multi-year strategic agreement to discover and deploy scalable manufacturing methods for chemical compounds, beginning with peptide building blocks. The collaboration aims to accelerate development timelines and strengthen capabilities at Grace’s U.S. fine chemicals manufacturing sites.

Technical approach

The effort pairs Molecule.one’s MARIA™ platform—AI-driven retrosynthesis coupled with a microliter automated laboratory—with Grace’s fine-chemicals expertise. MARIA™ will conduct AI analysis and autonomously run thousands of miniaturized reactions to identify and prioritize novel, efficient production routes and ensure reproducible lab results.

Target molecules and commercial context

The first phase targets peptide components used in therapeutics, including GLP‑1 treatments for weight loss and diabetes, where demand is strong. Conventional synthesis routes for peptide building blocks are often inefficient and hard to scale; the collaboration seeks scalable, reliable alternatives as the global market for metabolic-disease peptides is projected to exceed $100 billion by 2030.
