PTT Global Chemical LDPE plant wins Prime Minister’s Outstanding Industry Award 2025 for safety

Key highlights
  • Won the Prime Minister’s Outstanding Industry Award 2025 in the safety management category.
  • Recorded more than 3,400 consecutive accident‑free days (over 9 years).
  • No Tier 1 or Tier 2 Process Safety Events for more than 15 consecutive years.
  • Cut greenhouse gas emissions by over 64,000 tCO2e/year and generated 37.7 million baht in community income without environmental complaints.

Award and safety record

The LDPE plant received the Outstanding Industry Award 2025 (Prime Minister’s Industry Award) for safety management. GC reports more than 3,400 days without accidents (over nine years) and no Tier 1 or Tier 2 Process Safety Events for over 15 consecutive years.

Standards and technology

Safety was embedded from design using PTTGC Engineering Practice referencing international standards (ASME, NFPA, ANSI) and DuPont operational assessments since 2017. Risk methods include Bow‑tie Analysis, Field Risk Assessment and Early Detection Report, supported by Epsilon software and artificial intelligence and the first real‑time monitoring system in Thailand.

Emergency preparedness and community integration

Emergency planning covers plant and community with more than 16 joint drills per year. Detection and response tools include Open Path Gas Detectors, infrared drones, a firefighting robot and remote fixed monitors that enable water‑spray control from the control room. GC shares personnel, equipment and training with government agencies, neighbouring plants and local communities.

Operational efficiency and environmental measures

The plant applies Holistic Optimization and a 3 SMARTs digital approach to lower electricity use and costs. Investments include enclosed ground flare and regenerative thermal oxidation; reported emissions reductions exceed 64,000 tCO2e/year and the operation reports no environmental complaints since start‑up.
