Award and recognition

PTT Global Chemical (GC) received the BRIPC Best Practice Case in Intellectual Property 2025 award from the China National Intellectual Property Administration under the Belt and Road Intellectual Property Cooperation project. The award honours organisations that can utilise intellectual property to create concrete value for business, society and the environment.

Patented technology

The selected work is the patent "Improved Muconic Acid Production from Genetically Engineered Microorganisms", protected in many countries. The technology increases the efficiency of Bio‑Muconic Acid production, a bio‑based raw material for future materials such as Bio‑based Nylon 6,6, and helps reduce dependence on fossil raw materials.

Commercialisation and collaboration

GC extended the patent to commercial use and partnered with Toray Industries, Inc. to combine GC's bio‑fermentation technology with Toray's processing expertise. The collaboration developed Bio‑based Adipic Acid and successfully reached pre‑commercial production of Bio‑based Nylon 6,6.

Selection and significance

In 2025 the BRIPC award selected only 10–20 works globally based on technological excellence, commercial utilisation, and economic, social and environmental impact, as well as promotion of international IP cooperation. GC says the case underscores its ability to extend intellectual property into innovations that create business value while driving green technology, circular economy and low‑carbon industry through global collaboration.
