Transaction

The Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF) provided a €20 million EcoVerda loan to support Ercros’ decarbonisation works at its Vila‑seca I and Vila‑seca II plants within the Tarragona Industrial Complex (CIT).

Planned measures

At Vila‑seca I Ercros will install an electric boiler to partially replace fossil fuel heat generation. At Vila‑seca II the company will install a biomass‑fired steam generation system and a waste heat recovery (WHR) system. Both plants will also implement measures to optimise use of hydrogen produced in the chlor‑alkali process.

Financing and expected impact

The package aims to reduce the complex's CO₂ emissions by 56% and lower fossil fuel consumption. The total investment is €56.7 million; the ICF loan finances roughly 35% and the project has also received a €14 million PERTE grant from Spain.

Site profile

Ercros' Tarragona Industrial Complex employs 324 people, generates annual revenues of €214.8 million and exports about 43% of its production.
