- Power will be traded locally by Danske Commodities and the project targets double-digit returns.
Acquisition
Equinor acquired the ready-to-build 230 MW Esquina do Vento onshore wind complex from Vestas; the 51-turbine site is located in Rio Grande do Norte.
Development and capacity
The complex will be developed and operated by Equinor’s Rio Energy subsidiary, is expected to generate about 1 TWh annually and adds ~230 MW of installed capacity, complementing the 363 MW Serra da Babilônia hybrid wind/solar project in Bahia.
Market integration and returns
Power from these onshore assets will be traded in Brazil by Danske Commodities as part of an integrated power approach that combines wind, solar, storage and trading to optimise grid use and reduce intermittency; the Esquina do Vento project targets double-digit returns.
