Eni and Generative Bionics sign MoU to explore industrial use of humanoid robot GENE.01
- MoU signed to analyse, test and evaluate industrial collaboration on Generative Bionics' humanoid platform GENE.01, focusing on inspection, teleoperation, remote assistance and complex-environment support.
- Collaboration will target materials and component solutions with Versalis and Finproject to develop lighter, stronger, scalable foot and footwear systems and to industrialise sensor-equipped footwear.
- Eni will assess using its industrial sites for production, assembly and testing and potential cooperation on battery use, disposal and recycling across the robot production cycle.
- Eni may provide High Performance Computing capacity to train and validate Physical AI models; Eni invested in Generative Bionics via Eni Next in December 2025.
Partnership scope
Eni and Generative Bionics signed a memorandum of understanding to analyse, test and evaluate areas of technological and industrial collaboration in advanced humanoid robotics, beginning with the GENE.01 platform.
Use cases and objectives
Dedicated joint workstreams will identify potential industrial use cases — notably inspection, teleoperation, remote assistance and operations in complex environments — with the aim of enhancing safety standards and operational efficiency.
Materials and component development
The collaboration will explore innovative materials and component solutions drawing on Versalis' product portfolio (base chemicals, intermediates, plastics, elastomers and chemicals from renewable sources) and Finproject's expertise to develop lighter, stronger and scalable foot and footwear systems and improve impact absorption, grip, durability and assembly.
Industrialisation, batteries and computing
Eni will assess opportunities to use its industrial sites for production, assembly and testing and to cooperate on battery use, disposal and recycling; it will also consider providing High Performance Computing resources to support development, training and validation of Physical AI models for humanoid robots.
Context
The agreement follows Eni's investment in Generative Bionics through its venture arm, Eni Next, in December 2025.
