Eni completes Bouri Gas Utilization Project in Libya
- Built and installed the Bouri Gas Recovery Module and tie‑in infrastructure to recover and treat previously flared associated gas.
- Project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year.
- Recovered gas will provide about 700 million standard cubic metres per year to the domestic market for power generation.
- Additional gas volumes supported for export to Europe via the GreenStream pipeline.
Project completion
Eni, in partnership with Libya’s National Oil Corporation through the joint venture Mellitah Oil & Gas, has completed the Bouri Gas Utilization Project (GUP) and started start‑up procedures. The work included construction and installation of a new Bouri Gas Recovery Module (GRM) and related tie‑in infrastructure to recover and treat associated gas that was previously flared.
Environmental and supply impact
The project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year. Recovered gas will supply roughly 700 million standard cubic metres per year to the domestic market to help meet power generation demand, while also supporting additional volumes for export to Europe via the GreenStream pipeline.
Strategic context
The start‑up confirms the joint commitment of Eni and NOC to combine production growth, operational efficiency and environmental stewardship. The GUP is part of a broader strategy to enhance the value of Libya’s gas resources and reduce the emissions intensity of upstream activities, alongside other projects such as the A&E Structures Project and initiatives to upgrade and optimise gas production and transportation infrastructure.
