CPPC and SCGC launch ASEAN’s first food-grade recycled pet food packaging
- ASEAN’s first food-grade recycled pet food packaging uses Advanced Recycling to convert post-consumer plastic into Circular Naphtha and then Certified Circular Polyolefin Resin (SCGC GREEN POLYMER™).
- The material and supply chain are certified to ISCC PLUS for food-contact traceability and safety.
- Commercial implementation began in 2024 and has avoided more than 1,000 tons CO₂e to date, equivalent to planting over 100,000 trees.
- SCGC targets returning 500,000 tons of used plastics annually to the circular economy by 2030 through value-chain collaboration.
Partnership and product
CPPC (the packaging arm of Charoen Pokphand Group) and SCG Chemicals (SCGC) have collaborated to produce ASEAN’s first food-grade recycled pet food packaging. The packaging is presented as safe for pet and human food contact while delivering strength, durability and moisture protection to meet the requirements of global pet food brands.
Technology and certification
SCGC applies Advanced Recycling to convert post-consumer plastic waste into Circular Naphtha and then into Certified Circular Polyolefin Resin sold under the SCGC GREEN POLYMER™ brand. Both SCGC and CPPC maintain ISCC PLUS certification across the supply chain to provide traceability and demonstrate food-contact safety equivalent to virgin plastics.
Implementation and environmental impact
The food-grade recycled packaging has been commercially implemented since 2024. CPPC and SCGC say the project has avoided more than 1,000 tons of CO₂e compared with landfill disposal or incineration, an impact they equate to planting more than 100,000 trees. SCGC also states a target to return 500,000 tons of used plastics annually to the circular economy by 2030.
