Covestro opens polyester resin line in Meppen
- Multi million-euro, multi-year investment adds an extra reactor line with additional capacity in the double-digit kiloton range.
- New line runs on Meppen’s GMP-compliant infrastructure and can produce high-molecular-weight and standard polyesters, alkyds, acrylics and intermediates for polyurethane dispersions.
- Site upgrades include a new truck filling system, a fully automated drum filling line and a heat recovery installation to improve energy efficiency.
- Higher demand has prompted some additional hires in production, filling and shipping; products are sold under Uralac®, Uradil™, Hybrane™ and NeoRez®.
Investment and capacity
Covestro inaugurated a new polyester resin production line at its Meppen site, adding an extra reactor and increasing capacity in the double-digit kiloton range as part of a multi-year, multi million-euro investment.
Product scope and compliance
The new reactor is integrated with Meppen’s GMP-compliant manufacturing infrastructure to support food-contact applications and can run a broad range of chemistries. It is designed to produce high-molecular-weight and standard polyester grades, alkyds, acrylic resins and intermediates for polyurethane dispersions. These product lines serve can, coil, industrial coating and adhesive applications and are marketed under the brands Uralac®, Uradil™, Hybrane™ and NeoRez®.
Site upgrades and efficiency
Beyond the reactor, the project modernised existing facilities with a new truck filling system, a fully automated drum filling line and a heat recovery installation to capture process heat and improve energy efficiency.
Employment and strategic impact
The expansion strengthens Meppen’s role as a supplier of polyester specialties in Europe and has led to additional positions being filled in production, filling and shipping to meet higher customer demand.
