CATL becomes first battery company with Battery Passports in all three GBA pilot waves
- Only battery company to have battery passports published across all three GBA pilot waves.
- The 2026 pilot included cell manufacturers representing nearly 80% of global production capacity.
- CATL achieved comprehensive ESG data coverage across the full value chain, from mining and refining to cells and battery packs.
- Reached carbon neutrality across core operations in 2025 and is advancing toward full value-chain carbon neutrality by 2035.
Pilot involvement and scope
CATL has participated in the Global Battery Alliance (GBA) Battery Passport pilot program for three consecutive waves and is the only battery company with battery passports published across all pilot waves. Its participation dates to January 2023, when GBA published the first Battery Passport proof of concept.
2026 pilot results
The 2026 pilot included cell manufacturers representing nearly 80% of global production capacity. In the pilot assessment, CATL's battery product delivered strong performance across the full process and achieved comprehensive ESG data coverage across the entire value chain, from mining, refining and materials to cells and battery packs.
Validation, milestones and targets
In the second pilot wave CATL applied for separate passports for its Shenxing battery and CTP battery and was among the first to publicly release pilot results validated by an independent third party. CATL reports it has reached carbon neutrality across its core operations as scheduled in 2025 and is advancing toward a 2035 goal of full value-chain carbon neutrality.
Next steps
The GBA plans to make the Battery Passport certification scheme fully available in early 2027, moving from operational trials to full-scale implementation; CATL says it will continue collaborating with global partners on sustainability standards for the new energy industry.
