CATL said it met its 2025 target of carbon neutrality for core operations, with all 20 battery plants certified carbon neutral, and published a roadmap toward full value-chain carbon neutrality by 2035.
Core-operations performance
CATL developed the CATL Carbon Chain Management System (CCMS) in 2022 to monitor emissions and now covers production operations and core upstream suppliers with more than 1,000 product and raw-material models. Zero-carbon electricity accounted for 100% of electricity consumption in core operations in 2025, and the company reports cumulative zero-carbon power consumption of over 18 billion kWh since 2023. Energy consumption per unit at manufacturing bases fell 28% versus 2022 and carbon emission intensity fell approximately 77% versus 2022, yielding a cumulative reduction of more than 10 million tonnes CO₂e from 2023 to 2025.
Value-chain roadmap and targets
CATL says more than 80% of product-lifecycle emissions arise in the supply chain and total value-chain emissions exceed five times those of core operations. The company plans four decarbonization pillars: material innovation (including use of lower‑carbon anode inputs such as raw petroleum coke), material manufacturing with a target of 100% green electricity across the value chain by 2035, green logistics aiming for 100% zero-carbon logistics, and expanded battery recycling via Brunp Recycling. Baseline carbon data have been established for more than 100 core Tier‑1 suppliers, with a goal of full coverage across key upstream links.
Supplier requirements and initiatives
CATL will require new suppliers to provide product carbon footprint data from 2027 and will include renewable electricity usage and energy efficiency in annual supplier reviews. Under comparable conditions, suppliers with stronger low-carbon performance may be prioritized and supported through long-term agreements. CATL will also launch a Zero-Carbon Supply Chain Empowerment Initiative, starting with an initial cohort of 30 core suppliers.
