Partnership

Casale SA and Technip Energies have formed a partnership to jointly license oxidative reforming technologies — Auto‑thermal Reforming (ATR) and Partial Oxidation (POx) — for the blue hydrogen market. As co‑licensors they will provide Process Design Packages (PDP), proprietary equipment and full plant solutions.

Technology

ATR produces syngas containing hydrogen, CO and CO2. The technology is presented as cost‑effective for low‑carbon hydrogen when paired with carbon capture and is targeted at larger‑scale facilities. The collaboration states an ATR‑based solution could achieve up to 99% carbon capture rate when combined with carbon capture technology.

Execution

Technip Energies’ hydrogen centres of excellence in Claremont, California (US) and Zoetermeer (Netherlands) will jointly execute PDPs with Casale for ATR‑based blue hydrogen projects. Both firms will deliver PDPs, proprietary equipment and entire plants to project developers.

Executive commentary

Loic Chapuis, SVP Gas & Low Carbon Energies at Technip Energies, framed the partnership as complementary to Technip’s SMR‑based offerings and referenced the company’s delivery of more than 30% of installed hydrogen capacity worldwide. Federico Zardi, CEO of Casale SA, noted Casale’s track record in developing ATR and POx technologies, including several delivered ATR‑based mega production units.
