Overview

Braskem has released updated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies for its I'm green™ bio-based product line, including HDPE, EVA, and PE WAX. These assessments highlight the environmental impacts of these materials, derived from sugarcane ethanol.

Carbon Footprint Reductions

The updated LCAs reveal significant carbon footprint reductions: HDPE shows a net benefit of ~5 kg CO²e per kg, EVA ~4.5 kg CO²e per kg, and PE WAX ~4.7 kg CO²e per kg when replacing fossil-based alternatives.

Standards and Methodology

Conducted in line with ISO 14040/44 and ISO 14071 standards, the studies incorporate enhanced methodologies and the latest scientific modeling techniques, including the Environmental Footprint 3.1 method recommended by the European Commission.

Verification and Audit

The data, covering the period from 2020 to 2023, was critically reviewed and independently audited by a third-party organization to ensure accuracy and objectivity.
