Product quality and operations
AFC says the revision evidences its ability to produce ISO 14687 grade D hydrogen (99.97% purity) in volume and the robustness of its internal safety protocols. The Dunsfold pilot is currently capable of producing up to 300 kg of hydrogen per day.
JV expansion and permitting
AFC Energy and joint‑venture partner Industrial Chemicals Group Ltd (ICL) are working to establish hydrogen production at ICL's Port Clarence, Middlesborough, using multiple Hy‑5 ammonia cracker units, each capable of producing up to 500 kg/day. The JV is engaged with the Environment Agency at local and central levels to develop a framework for future deployments and accelerated permitting across the UK.
Commercial impact
Management says the permit change provides more flexibility for relocating the pilot—allowing live‑environment training at Dunsfold—and will accelerate AFC Energy's hydrogen revenue generation by a number of months.
