Expansion Details
Ercros has initiated a second expansion at its Vila-seca I chlorine and caustic soda production plant, increasing capacity by 26,000 t/year. This expansion is part of the company's investment plan.
Future Plans
A third expansion, also adding 26,000 t/year, is currently underway and expected to be operational by mid-2019. Upon completion, Ercros' total chlorine production capacity will reach 217,000 t/year.
Technological Shift
The expansions aim to restore Ercros' production levels to those before the December 11, 2017 cessation of mercury technology, following the European ban on mercury in electrolytic plants. The company now uses membrane technology, considered the best available technology (BAT), for all chlorine and caustic soda production.
