LANXESS Boosts Micronized Iron Oxide Red Pigment Production

At a glance
  • Production at Krefeld-Uerdingen increased by 5,000 metric tons annually
  • Micronized iron oxide pigments are used in paints, coatings, and plastics
  • Micronization involves intensive milling to reduce agglomerates
  • Enhanced pigments offer better dispersion, color strength, and consistency

Increased Production Capacity

LANXESS has optimized its global production network for iron oxide pigments, specifically at the Krefeld-Uerdingen site. This optimization, achieved through targeted debottlenecking, has increased the availability of Bayferrox and Colortherm micronized red pigments by over 5,000 metric tons per year.

Rising Demand

The paints and coatings industry, along with plastics applications, is experiencing a continuous rise in demand for high-quality pigments with good dispersion characteristics. This increase in production capacity aims to meet this growing demand.

Micronization Process

Micronized iron oxide pigments from LANXESS are primarily used in technically demanding paints, coating systems, and for coloring plastics. The micronization process involves intensive milling, significantly reducing the proportion of agglomerates, which enhances the pigments' dispersion capabilities.

Enhanced Pigment Properties

Micronized pigments offer high color strength and consistency, making them suitable for applications requiring precise and reliable color performance. These properties make them highly valuable in various industrial applications.
