Coolrec Opens Plastics Compounding Plant in Emmen

At a glance
  • Coolrec's new plant in Emmen will supply 10,000 tonnes of plastic pellets annually.
  • The plant processes PE, PP, PS, and ABS from recycled electronics.
  • Coolrec acquired Inverko Compounding, including processing lines, silos, and R&D facilities.
  • The plant supports the circular economy by converting recycled materials into new consumer goods.

New Plant Opening

Coolrec, a subsidiary of Van Gansewinkel, has opened its new Coolrec Plastics Compounding plant in Emmen. The facility will produce specified plastic pellets from recycled electronic appliances, supplied directly to consumer goods manufacturers. The plant is expected to supply 10,000 tonnes of pellets annually, contributing to the circular economy.

Recycling Process

At Coolrec PHB in Waalwijk, plastic flows from scrapped electrical and electronic products are recycled into high-value raw materials. These materials, including PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PS (polystyrene), and ABS (Acrylonitril-Butadine-Styrene), are cleaned and reprocessed. The refined materials are then sent to Emmen for further specification and conversion into pellets.

Investment and Acquisition

The Emmen plant arose from the acquisition of Inverko Compounding, marking a significant step forward for Coolrec. The acquisition includes processing lines, silos, a laboratory, and R&D facilities. Coolrec has integrated its own specialists into the work process and plans to continue investing in the plant's future.

High-Value Recycling

Coolrec ensures high-value recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), converting them into high-value plastics, metals, and other raw materials. The company uses innovative technology to recover specific materials from scrapped equipment, such as screens, fridges, and computer equipment, which can then be reused in new products. This process supports sustainability objectives by reducing CO2 emissions and promoting the circular economy.
