Commissioning of the Pilot Plant
In April, BASF commissioned a pilot plant for the production of SLENTITE®, a new high-performance insulating panel. The plant, located in Lemförde, became operational after 18 months of planning and construction, involving numerous local firms and plant engineering specialists.
SLENTITE®: A Novel Insulating Material
SLENTITE® is a polyurethane-based aerogel insulating material, notable for being the first of its kind available as a heavy-duty panel. It combines key properties needed for both new construction projects and renovations, offering efficient and extremely slim insulation.
Performance and Applications
With a lambda value of 17 mW/m•K, SLENTITE® provides top-tier insulation in a mechanically strong panel. It is particularly suitable for interior applications, offering architects significant design freedom. The panels also feature excellent moisture regulation, contributing to a pleasant indoor climate, and can be handled and processed like conventional construction products.
Future Developments
The pilot plant aims to optimize the performance profile of SLENTITE® and will initially supply samples to selected partners. The goal is to develop an industrial-scale production process, paving the way for a market launch in the coming years.
