New SBC Pilot Plant in Antwerp
Styrolution has launched a pilot styrene-butadiene copolymer (SBC) plant in Antwerp, aimed at enhancing global supply security and R&D capabilities. The plant will produce all of Styrolution's SBC grades and has the capability to process other polymer types.
Scaled-Down Production Facility
The pilot plant is an identical but smaller version of the larger 65 kt production SBC plant in Antwerp. It will be used for R&D experiments, allowing customers to produce sufficient materials for in-house analysis and product testing. The facility will also support daily commercial operations and enhance specialty styrenics like Styrolux and Styroflex.
Support for Growth Strategy
The pilot plant aligns with Styrolution's "Triple Shift" growth strategy, which focuses on styrenic specialties, ABS Standard, higher-growth industries, and emerging markets. It provides customers worldwide with greater access to specialty materials and a new location for R&D exploration related to new applications and material solutions.
Expert Leadership
The development of the pilot plant involved collaboration and strategy from several Styrolution production and copolymer experts. A small team will oversee the plant's operations, ensuring it meets the needs of customers for testing and experimenting with styrenic solutions.
