Sasol O&S Launches New TEAL Production Plant

Production Milestone

Sasol Olefins & Surfactants (O&S) has achieved a significant milestone with the production of its new ALCAT®TEAL, a highly purified tri-ethyl aluminium product. The TEAL plant in Brunsbüttel, Germany, commenced operations in June 2012 and has been running smoothly for nearly a year.

Capacity and Safety

The Brunsbüttel facility has an initial annual production capacity of 6,000 tonnes. Leveraging over 50 years of experience with aluminium alkyls, Sasol O&S ensures adherence to the highest safety standards. The company has applied its expertise to the entire logistics chain, from production to global customer deliveries, ensuring seamless container rotation.

Applications and Approvals

ALCAT®TEAL is utilized as a co-catalyst in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene and as a reactive intermediate in manufacturing linear alpha olefins (LAO). Sasol O&S has obtained further approvals for using ALCAT®TEAL in applications such as the Novolen process, a leading polypropylene gas-phase technology.

The full functionality of the supply chain has been proven with successful product supplies to customers like Sasol Polymers in South Africa. The Brunsbüttel plant's local infrastructure and expertise in handling special chemicals position it ideally to produce TEAL reliably and in high quality and quantities, offering global customers maximum product and supply security.
