New TEAL Production Unit

Sasol announced the construction of a purified tri-ethyl aluminum (TEAL) production unit at its Sasol Olefins & Surfactants (O&S) plant in Brunsbüttel, Germany. The facility, with an initial annual production capacity of 6,000 tons, is expected to commence operations in early 2012.

Leveraging Existing Production

Sasol O&S is currently the world's largest producer of tri-ethyl aluminum, produced during the manufacture of alcohols at its Ziegler units in Brunsbüttel, Germany, and Lake Charles, LA, USA. The new unit will allow Sasol to capitalize on its strong position in TEAL production and captive supply, ensuring quality and availability for the growing market.

Application and Safety

With extensive experience in the linear alpha-olefins and polymers markets, Sasol is well-versed in the use of TEAL in these applications. The company has also signed a cooperation agreement with a leading gas-phase polypropylene technology provider to qualify Sasol's TEAL for their sensitive production processes. Sasol's expertise ensures rigorous adherence to safety requirements throughout the supply chain, guaranteeing the safe and reliable supply of high-quality TEAL to customers worldwide.

Future Capacity Expansion

The new plant will utilize only a small portion of the available resources at the Ziegler plant, positioning Sasol to develop additional capacity to meet future market demands.
