X-energy (X-Energy Reactor Company, LLC) is a U.S. developer of advanced small modular nuclear reactors and fuel technologies. The company’s flagship design, the Xe-100, is a high-temperature, helium-cooled, graphite-moderated reactor using pebble fuel made with TRISO (tri-structural isotropic) particles. Each module is designed to deliver roughly 200 MWt (about 80 MWe) and can be deployed in multi-unit configurations. The reactor’s high operating temperatures and passive safety characteristics are intended to support reliable, flexible, and low-carbon energy production.
For the chemical and broader process industries, X-energy focuses on supplying high-temperature steam and process heat alongside electricity, offering a potential pathway to decarbonize heat-intensive operations such as petrochemicals, refining, and hydrogen production. Through its TRISO-X fuel activities, the company is advancing commercial-scale TRISO fuel manufacturing in the United States to support deployment of high-temperature gas-cooled reactors.
